It’s about moving teeth into better positions, usually with braces or clear aligners, to fix crowding, gaps, or bite problems. Over time, the teeth shift gradually until things line up the way they should. 

Around age 7 is the general rule of thumb, even if there’s nothing to be concerned about. It just gives us a chance to catch anything developing early, while there’s still room to work with. 

Nope. There’s no cutoff age as long as your gums and jawbone are in decent shape. We actually see a lot of adult patients in Burton these days, and aligners especially make it pretty easy to fit into a normal work schedule. 

Somewhere between 12 and 24 months on average, though it really comes down to how much correcting it needs. Small adjustments go quicker; more complicated bites take longer. 

Braces stay on the whole time and tend to handle the tougher cases better. Aligners come out when you eat or brush, which people like, but they only work if you’re actually disciplined about wearing them enough hours a day. 

There’s usually some soreness for a few days after adjustments, especially at the start. Most people describe it as annoying more than painful.
